Work begins on Monday September 16 to resurface a section of Chester’s Lower Bridge Street with York Stone.
The section involved is between St Olave Street and Pepper Street, starting at the St Olave Street junction.
While the eight week scheme is underway, the road will be closed to northbound traffic and all traffic heading towards Chester will be diverted via Overleigh Roundabout, Grosvenor Street and Grosvenor Road. Traffic heading towards Handbridge will not be affected.
Councillor Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Localities said: “This important work will match the heritage York stone paving in Bridge Street and Watergate Street and we hope will draw people to this important shopping area.
“Residents and business owners have wanted this work to be carried out for sometime and we know how important this scheme is to them.
“The one way system will cause some disruption and we apologise while the work is being carried out.”
Local Councillor Samantha Dixon said: “I believe that local residents will welcome this programme of upgrading the paving in Lower Bridge Street and hopefully it will result in more people using this important street.
“It is good that the work has been scheduled to take place now that the children are back at school and well before the run up to Christmas.”
