Cheshire West and Chester Council and Chester Renaissance have completed the transformation of an unused city centre site – considered by many to be an eyesore – into a beautiful green space, creating St Martin’s Park (between St Martin’s Way and the bus terminal).

The new park that opens to the public in April was visited this week by Cllr Stuart Parker who was shown around by members of the project.

It features professional landscaping and an area for public use, affording extensive open views. There is a new multi-purpose open air public arena area (for small – medium sized events) complete with a banked grass viewing area.

New trees have been planted, along with an improvement to the current street lighting. Complementing the existing bus station will be a new coach drop-off area providing visitors /users improved access routes to city centre amenities.

Cllr Parker, Interim Chairman of Chester Renaissance, said: “This is an excellent addition for Chester, not only do we get a new park but a new performance space that will compliment the events programme whilst also drastically improving an unused area of the city.”

Rita Waters, Chief Executive Chester Renaissance, added: “This area aims to provide a quality green space right in the heart of our wonderful city, and we are very pleased with the results.  We need to give the planting time to establish and once its open to the public in April; we hope the cities residents and visitors enjoy the space created.”
